Jobs and Economic Growth
The City of Racine continues to face one of the highest unemployment rates in Wisconsin. Too many residents are impacted by wage stagnation and low labor force participation, limiting economic mobility and long-term stability for families. Addressing these challenges requires a focused strategy that connects people to good-paying jobs and strengthens pathways into the workforce. Racine has already made important investments through workforce development grants and training programs designed to prepare residents for in-demand careers.
My approach to jobs and economic growth prioritizes the continuation of these programs to continue, expand, and be better coordinated to ensure residents can access them. We will prioritize:
Workforce Development and Access: Strengthen and sustain existing workforce grants and training programs while closing access gaps that prevent residents from participating. This includes improving outreach, coordination, and support services.
Pathways to Employment: Align workforce programs with local industry needs to ensure training leads directly to stable, family-supporting jobs.
Union Growth and Skilled Trades: Support policies that strengthen labor unions and expand opportunities in skilled trades, ensuring workers earn fair wages and benefits.
Good jobs are the foundation of a strong community. By strengthening unions and supporting a program similar to Milwaukee’s Resident Preference Program (RPP), we can prioritize local workers, grow a skilled workforce, and ensure economic development benefits Racine residents first. Investing in people, expanding access, and supporting fair wages will move Racine toward a more inclusive and resilient economy.
