Public Safety
Public safety is foundational to a strong and thriving community. Current concerns across the City of Racine include nuisance properties that generate frequent police calls, public intoxication and loitering, and incidents of violent crime. Vacant and poorly managed properties present additional risks, creating unsafe conditions for residents, first responders, and law enforcement. A lack of streamlined accountability for property owners has allowed these problems to persist, placing unnecessary strain on public safety resources.
My approach to public safety prioritizes prevention, accountability, and collaboration. We will prioritize:
Community-Oriented Policing: Expand initiatives that strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve, with a proven focus on reducing violent crime and increasing trust.
Enforcement of Problem Properties: Implement stricter and more consistent enforcement measures for nuisance and vacant properties, ensuring property owners are held accountable for maintaining safe conditions.
Collaborative Public Safety Efforts: Foster partnerships among law enforcement, local agencies, and community shareholders to disrupt intrusive public gatherings and reduce disorder, while creating more accessible and responsive channels for residents to report concerns.
Integrated Support Services: Increase the use of trained professionals working alongside law enforcement to address non-criminal issues such as public intoxication, behavioral health crises, and quality-of-life concerns.
My campaign is committed to support and expand evidence-based strategies aimed at reducing violent crime. These efforts will focus on targeted enforcement, early intervention, and community engagement to address the root causes of violence while maintaining accountability.
